Doha 2026 World Championship to mark first major step on the road to LA28
The ISSF World Championship Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun Doha 2026, one of the biggest events on the international shooting sport calendar, will take place in Doha, Qatar, from 1 to 14 November. The championship will bring together the world’s leading rifle, pistol and shotgun athletes.
The event will have added significance as it marks the official beginning of the qualification process for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. A total of 36 Olympic quota places will be awarded in Doha, with three available in each of the 12 individual Olympic events. It will be the single largest quota opportunity of the LA28 qualification cycle.
The Olympic programme will feature 10m Air Rifle, 50m Rifle 3 Positions, 10m Air Pistol, 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, Women’s 25m Pistol, Skeet and Trap, as well as Mixed Team events in Air Rifle, Air Pistol and Trap.
Olympic champions, reigning world champions and leading performers from the 2026 World Cup season are expected to compete in Doha. The season has already produced several outstanding performances, including a World Record by China’s Zhang Changhong in the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions final and another by Yao Qianxun and Hu Kai in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event. Australia’s James Willett and Penny Smith also equalled the Trap Mixed Team World Record.
Doha has established itself as an experienced host of major ISSF competitions, having staged multiple World Cups and World Cup Finals. Preparations are continuing in cooperation between the ISSF and the Local Organising Committee, covering venue operations, logistics, accommodation, transportation, media services and athlete support.
With world titles and the first LA28 quota places at stake, Doha 2026 will represent the first major milestone on the road to the Los Angeles Olympic Games and one of the defining events of the 2026 international shooting season.
