LA28: Final formats confirmed for rifle, pistol and shotgun events

ISSF has confirmed the final formats for shooting sport at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The formats were developed after testing at ISSF competitions, with the aim of improving the flow of the events, increasing spectator interest and giving athletes a strong competitive platform.

There will be 15 medal events in rifle, pistol and shotgun at LA28. The main changes apply to mixed team events: in 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team, 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team and Trap Mixed Team, the top 4 teams from qualification will advance directly to the final and compete together from the start.

There are also changes in individual events. The 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men final will increase from 6 to 8 athletes. In Trap and Skeet finals, both men’s and women’s events will also have 8 finalists. In 50m Rifle 3 Positions, the kneeling and prone stages will be held with a combined time limit.

The individual finals for 10m Air Rifle, 10m Air Pistol and 25m Pistol Women will remain unchanged from the Paris 2024 format.

The first Olympic quota places under these formats will be awarded at the ISSF World Championship Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun Doha 2026.
